Pre-symposium short Courses
There will be two full-day pre-symposium short
courses on Sunday, July 3rd. Courses will be taught in English.
Course content has been selected according to the symposium topics.
A minimum of 15 attendees must be registered for the short courses;
they may be cancelled otherwise. Course registrations are not
included in the Symposium fees.
As the courses will be held in parallel, it is only possible to
register for one course.

COURSE CONTENT:

Course “1”:
Application and use of wave data for
typical engineering projects.
Existing wave databases: visual and instrumental. Short and long
term wave climate determination.
Parametric forms for Wave Energy Spectrum. Directional Spectrum.
Application to typical cases: accidental oil spills, port and
coast interaction, beach restoration, flooding levels and
climatic change.

Course “2”:
Long Waves.
Types of infragravity waves. Tides. Tsunamis. Wave groups:
bounded and free waves.
Phenomenological description. Analysis of typical cases and
important effects: sediment movement, beach morphodynamics,
harbor basin resonance, edge waves.
