Fields of Activity

The CEDEX Libraries Network is integrated by the seven libraries of each of the Centres and Laboratories that constitute CEDEX. Each of these libraries is specialized in the field of activity of the Centre to which it belongs and its activity is coordinated from the Central Library (Library of the Centro de Estudios de Técnicas Aplicadas), forming the whole a Centre of Documental Reference, highly specialized in civil engineering. Its origin goes back to the Library of students of the old School of Civil Engineers of the Ministry of Public Works that in 1957, year of the creation of CEDEX, was integrated in this Organization as Bibliographic Centre.

The documental collection of the Network is composed by a varied range of documents (books, magazines, reports, doctoral thesis, standards, etc) of a scientific and technical character, specialized in the matters characteristic of Civil Engineering, such as: Roads, Materials, Structures, Hydraulic Works, Harbours and Coasts, Environment, Geotechnics and other related disciplines.

The database of the bibliographic references gathers the most of the documental collection resident in the seven libraries. It contains nowadays more than one hundred thousand registers, with a growing of some three thousand registers per year, and it is accessible by a search

  • General database: It represents the references of the databases as a whole, catalogued in Marc format, and it includes all kind of documents, books, magazines, technical reports, doctoral thesis, standards, congress proceedings, etc.
  • Magazine database: It contains more the 1500 magazine collections, specialized in civil engineering and related matters, of which more than 500 are active subscriptions. Most of these subscriptions allow the access to the full text from their online magazines pages.
  • Technical reports database: It contains the references of near 5000 technical reports of CEDEX, which are the result of the habitual activity of the Organization.

The documentation services of CEDEX , offers the usual documentation and bibliographical services to the public in general and to the scientific community in particular.
